Kōrin-in
興臨院
Kōrin-in is a historic Zen sub-temple with important architecture, open on special viewing days.
What it is
- Rinzai Zen sub-temple of Daitoku-ji.
- Founded between 1521 and 1528 by Hatakeyama Yoshifusa.
- Named after founder's posthumous Buddhist name.
- Main deity is Shaka Nyorai.
What to see
- Hojo (main hall) is an Important Cultural Property.
- Hojo has a hip-and-gable roof and cypress bark roofing.
- Hojo's tokonoma is said to be the first in Japan.
- Karamon (Chinese gate) is an Important Cultural Property.
- Sanmon (main gate) is an Important Cultural Property.
- Sanmon is one of Daitoku-ji's oldest gates.
When to go
- Only open to the public on special viewing days.
