Kōshin-dō Shrine
庚申堂
Kōshin-dō Shrine is a small, historic Nara temple known for its unique monkey charms.
What it is
- A base for Kōshin faith in Nara.
- Known locally as "Kōshin-san."
- Enshrines a Shōmen Kongō statue.
- The building was rebuilt in the Heisei period.
What to see
- A wooden, painted Shōmen Kongō statue.
- Kisshō Tennyo and Jizō Bosatsu statues.
- Monkey charms hung from the eaves as amulets.
- These charms are called "migawari-zaru" or "negai-zaru."
