What it is

  • Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect, founded between 585 and 587.
  • Known as Takakura Kannon, it is the 30th Bandō Kannon pilgrimage temple.
  • Principal image is Shō Kannon Bosatsu.

What to see

  • Main hall, Sanmon gate, and bell tower are city cultural properties.
  • A stone marks where Fujiwara no Kamatari rested.
  • See the Kamatari-zakura, a cherry tree named after Kamatari.
