Kōzō-ji Temple
高蔵寺
Ancient Buddhist temple, part of a pilgrimage, with historic buildings and a unique cherry tree.
What it is
- Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect, founded between 585 and 587.
- Known as Takakura Kannon, it is the 30th Bandō Kannon pilgrimage temple.
- Principal image is Shō Kannon Bosatsu.
What to see
- Main hall, Sanmon gate, and bell tower are city cultural properties.
- A stone marks where Fujiwara no Kamatari rested.
- See the Kamatari-zakura, a cherry tree named after Kamatari.
