Kurume Suitengū
水天宮
Kurume Suitengū is the head shrine for all Suitengū shrines, dedicated to water deities and historical figures.
What it is
- Head Shinto shrine for all Suitengū shrines nationwide.
- Dedicated to Amenominakanushi-no-kami, Emperor Antoku, and two empresses.
- Moved to its current location in 1650.
What to see
- Memorial hall for Maki Izumi-no-kami.
- Bronze statue of Maki Izumi-no-kami, rebuilt in 1968.
- Maki Shrine, an auxiliary shrine on the grounds.
When to go
- Spring grand festival from May 3rd to 7th.
