What it is
- The third largest caldera lake in Japan, located within Shikotsu-Tōya National Park.
- A UNESCO Global Geopark formed by a volcanic eruption approximately 110,000 years ago.
- A circular body of water with a 43 kilometer circumference and 180 meter depth.
- The site of the 34th G8 Summit held in 2008.
What to see
- Nakajima, a group of four islands situated in the center of the lake.
- Ezo deer that inhabit the Nakajima islands after being introduced in 1957.
