This uninhabited island is currently being transformed into a major military base for Japanese and U.S. aircraft training.
What it is
- The second largest uninhabited island in Japan located in the East China Sea.
- A former residential area that became completely uninhabited in March 1980.
- A natural habitat for the unique Mage-shika deer subspecies.
- A future Japan Self-Defense Forces base currently under construction since January 2023.

- The highest point of the island at Takenokoshi reaching 71.7 meters.
