Maki-do Cave

What it is

• A limestone cave in Niimi City, Okayama Prefecture.
• Designated natural monument of Okayama Prefecture.
• Discovered in the early Tenpo era, late Edo period.
• Renamed Maki-do in 1929 by Tekkan and Akiko Yosano.

What to see

• Well-developed secondary cave formations.
• Cave entrance is 4 meters by 1.5 meters.
• Total length is approximately 450 meters.
• Maximum width of the cave is about 25 meters.
• LED lighting introduced in March 2014.
• Filming location for the movie "Yatsuhaka-mura".

When to go

• Constant temperature of around 13 degrees Celsius.
