What it is

  • An independent temple of the Jodo Shinshu Higashi Honganji sect located in Taito Ward.
  • Founded during the late Muromachi period by Hosei, a member of the Ashikaga clan.
  • Relocated to its current site following the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657.
  • Established originally in Mikawa Province before moving to Tokyo by order of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
