Mitsugon-in Temple
密厳院
Mitsugon-in is a historic Shingon temple with unique Kobo Daishi statues, a short walk from Machiya Station.
What it is
- A Shingon-shu Buzan-ha temple.
- Founded by Kakutan in 1533.
- May date back to the early Kamakura period.
- Revived by Bansui in the late Edo period.
What to see
- 120 Kobo Daishi statues donated by Asakusa Okuramae Ko-chu.
- An Itabi (stone tablet) from 1540.
- The Itabi is a registered cultural property.
