Mount Kanpū

What it is

• A 1,763-meter mountain belonging to the Ishizuchi mountain range.
• One of the Shikoku 100 Famous Mountains formerly known as Samukazeyama.
• Part of the protected Sasagamine Nature Conservation Area.
• A geological site consisting primarily of mafic schist from the Sambagawa Metamorphic Belt.

What to see

• A summit area covered extensively in Shikoku bamboo grass.
• The western face of the mountain known as Ura-Kanpu.
• Remnants of the Motoyasu copper mine which operated at the base until 1972.

Getting there

• Climbers access the trail via the South Exit of the Old Kanpuzan Tunnel.
