Mount Nosoko

What it is

• One of Japan's 100 Island Mountains located in Ishigaki City.
• A geological site consisting of Eocene volcanic rocks and lava.
• The source of the Nishihama River also known as Nosoko Fuji.
• A site dedicated to the legend of a woman named Mape.

What to see

• A large standing andesite rock located at the mountain peak.
• Dense forests covered by a community of Castanopsis sieboldii trees.
• The Nosoko Forest Road which fully opened in April 2004.

Getting there

• The hike from the trailhead takes fifteen to thirty minutes to reach the top.
