Mount Ōtaki

What it is

• A 2,616-meter mountain located in the southern Hida Mountains of Nagano Prefecture.
• Part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park between Matsumoto and Azumino.
• The mountain is primarily composed of black slate from the Chichibu Paleozoic layer.
• The source of the Otaki River with its highest point at the northern peak.

What to see

• The Otaki Sanso mountain hut located near the northern peak.
• The Nakamura Shindo trail which connects the mountain to Tokugo Pass.
• Remnants of the abandoned Hida Shindo road that once passed through the area.
