Mount Unabetsu

What it is

• A Quaternary stratovolcano reaching an elevation of 1419.3 meters on the Shiretoko Peninsula.
• The peak is composed of andesite and basalt from activity 900,000 to 500,000 years ago.
• The name originates from the Ainu word Unapet, meaning river of ashes.
