What it is

  • A mountain peak situated on the border of Gunma and Niigata prefectures.
  • Part of the Mikuni Range located adjacent to Mount Makihata.
  • A protected area within the Minakami UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

What to see

  • Daylilies growing along the path connecting to Mount Makihata.
  • Views of the Yagisawa Dam from the Gunma side of the mountain.
  • A mountain hut located at an elevation of 1820 meters.
  • The Idoone ridge route which takes about four and a half hours to traverse.

Getting there

  • Buses run from Muikamachi Station to the Shimizu stop.
  • A sixty minute walk is required from the Shimizu bus stop to the trailhead.
  • The trailhead is accessible by car from the Shiozawa Ishiuchi Interchange.
