What it is

  • A 252-meter-high volcano located on the southern shore of Lake Toya.
  • A cryptodome created by viscous dacite lava during the 1910 eruption of Mount Usu.
  • Also known as Meiji Shinzan, it was officially named Yosomiyama around 1931.
  • The volcanic activity here led to the discovery of the nearby Toyako Onsen.

  • Deciduous broad-leaved forests that now cover the entire mountain surface.
  • A major volcanic crater known as Genta-ana.
  • Remnants of the 36 to 45 craters created during the initial 1910 eruption.
