Nichihon-ji Temple

Historic Nichiren temple, once a major training center, now famed for its diverse hydrangea garden.
What it is
- Head temple of the Nichiren sect.
- Established in 1319 as Koyu-zan Tofuku-ji.
- Renamed Shotozan Nichihon-ji in 1591.
- Nakamura Danrin trained 100,000 monks here.
What to see
- Main hall has statues of Nichiren and Toki Jonin.
- Ajisai garden opened in 2013.
- Garden has 50 types of rare hydrangeas.
When to go
- Known as Ajisai-dera (Hydrangea Temple).
