What it is
- A Shingon Buzan sect temple located in Hitachi City.
- Founded by the monk Kukai between the years 806 and 810.
- Named after a spiritual vision of the rising sun.
- Relocated to its current site in 1689 by Tokugawa Mitsukuni.
What to see
- The mountain gate which is the only structure to survive an 1864 fire.
- The main hall which was rebuilt in 1940 after previous destruction.
