What it is

  • A keyhole-shaped tumulus, part of the Oyamato Kofun group.
  • Estimated to have been built in the early 6th century.
  • Theorized to be the true mausoleum of Empress Tashiraka.

What to see

  • The mound has a total length of 114 meters.
  • Posterior circular part: 65 meters diameter, 13 meters high.
  • Anterior square part: 70 meters wide, 8 meters high.
  • Fukiishi and haniwa excavated from the mound surface.
  • Surrounding moat visible as four ponds.
  • A lodging facility opened in 2024 within the kofun area.
