Ōnamuchi Shrine is a historic site with ancient camphor trees and a unique Yabusame ritual.

What it is

  • Shrine dedicated to Ōnamuchi-no-kami and imperial figures.
  • Also enshrines two other deities.
  • Shimazu Tadahisa invited Hachiman-jin in 1186.
  • Origin of the shrine is unclear.

  • Approach lined with many large camphor trees.
  • Camphor trees are called 'Senbon-Kusunoki'.
