Gonjō-ji Temple
欣浄寺 (大阪市)
Gongyoji is a historic Buddhist temple in Osaka with a rare Momoyama period painting.
What it is
- A Jodo Shinshu Takada-ha Buddhist temple.
- Founded by the monk Keiko during 1573-1592.
- Original name was Kuyasan Kosenji.
- Moved to its current location by Tokugawa's order.
What to see
- Colored silk painting of Tamahi-hime.
- Painting is an Osaka Prefecture designated cultural property.
- Tamahi-hime was the wife of Shinran Shonin.
- Painting dates to the Momoyama period.
