Kannon-ji Temple
観音寺
Kannon-ji Temple is a historic pilgrimage site with significant Buddhist statues.
What it is
- Koyasan Shingon sect temple.
- 16th sacred site of the Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage.
- Established by Gyoki under Emperor Shomu's command.
- Rebuilt in 1659 after being burned down.
What to see
- Main hall enshrines Senju Kannon, Fudo Myoo, and Bishamonten.
- Kukai carved and enshrined the main image in 816.
- Koshindo enshrines Shomen Kongo.
When to go
- Daishido is opened annually around February 20th.
