Jōfuku-ji Temple
常福寺
Jofukuji is a historic Rinzai Zen temple with a notable Great Buddha and Kannon Hall.
What it is
- A Rinzai sect Myoshinji school temple.
- Founded as Koki-an during the Genna era (1615-1624).
- Renamed Chisokuzan Jofukuji.
- Merged with Horinzan Jizo-in in 1911.
What to see
- Kannon-do houses Kannon Bosatsu as its main deity.
- Kannon-do was relocated to the grounds in 1869.
- Jizo-do was built in 1840.
- The Great Buddha is a concrete Shakyamuni Nyorai.
