- Founded by Dainan Hanzaemon during the Tenna era at an elevation of 870 meters
- Designated as a National Recreation Hot Spring Resort by the government in 2015
- Known for sulfur and sulfate mineral waters used for neuralgia and skin diseases

- The Tokoan building which served as a salon for literary figures like Motoori Norinaga
