Rakumon Falls

What it is

• A registered monument of Japan with a drop of approximately 40 meters.
• Also known as Shimogi Falls and named by Confucian scholar Hirose Tanso.
• Fed by the Jōbaru irrigation canal established by Lord Nakagawa Hisakiyo.

What to see

• A waterfall that drops 40 meters down a cliff face.
• A stone monument inscribed with a Chinese poem located near the station.

When to go

• Cold winter days to see ice formations on the falls.
• Be aware the waterfall may have no water depending on the season.

Getting there

• The site is located directly behind Bungo-Taketa Station.
