Saminaga Shrine is an ancient, unusual Ise Jingu shrine worth visiting for its unique architecture.

What it is

  • A subordinate shrine of Izawa-no-miya.
  • Dedicated to the deity Ootoshi-no-kami.
  • Unusual for an Ise Jingu shrine, it faces east.
  • Artifacts from Jomon to Kofun periods were excavated here.

What to see

  • Shrine building in Shinmei-zukuri style with a thatched roof.
  • Building has a balustrade and stairs.
  • It is surrounded by a fence.
  • A donation box, unusual for subordinate Ise Jingu shrines.
  • Stone steps from the torii to the main hall: 36 steps.
  • Located on a hill about 10m high.
