Seion-ji
清音寺
A historic Rinzai Zen temple in Ibaraki founded by Kukai, featuring ancient stone pagodas and ties to the Tokugawa clan.
What it is
- A Rinzai Nanzenji school temple located in Shirosato, Ibaraki Prefecture.
- Founded by the priest Kukai in the year 809.
- Converted from Shingon to Rinzai Buddhism in 1344 by Satake Yoshiatsu.
- Received protection from Tokugawa Ieyasu and became a direct affiliate of Nanzenji.

- Three Hokyointo pagodas designated as municipal cultural properties.
- Rebuilt temple structures dating back to the mid-fourteenth century.
