What it is

  • Head temple of the Sennyū-ji school of Shingon Buddhism.
  • Known as Mitera, the imperial mortuary temple.
  • Effectively founded by Gachirin Daishi Shunjo.
  • Contains imperial tombs from the Kamakura and Edo periods.
