Shiga Shrine is a historic shrine dedicated to sea gods, notable for its ancient camphor tree.

What it is

  • Founded in 859, a branch of Shikaumi Shrine.
  • Dedicated to the Sumiyoshi Sanjin, gods of the sea.
  • Also enshrines Amenominakanushi no Mikoto, Emperor Ojin, Sugawara no Michizane.
  • Considered the birthplace of the Japanese Navy.
