志賀神社
Shiga Shrine is a historic shrine dedicated to sea gods, notable for its ancient camphor tree.
What it is
- Founded in 859, a branch of Shikaumi Shrine.
- Dedicated to the Sumiyoshi Sanjin, gods of the sea.
- Also enshrines Amenominakanushi no Mikoto, Emperor Ojin, Sugawara no Michizane.
- Considered the birthplace of the Japanese Navy.
