Shimoshiotsu Shrine

What it is

• Shinto shrine in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture.
• Dedicated to Shiotsuchi-no-Ōkami, Izanagi-no-Mikoto, and Izanami-no-Mikoto.
• Izanagi and Izanami were invited from Kumano in 899.
• Considered a candidate for Shikinaisha, an ancient shrine ranking.

What to see

• The shrine crest is the Go-shichi no Kiri (paulownia).
• Shimei Shrine is a subordinate shrine on the grounds.
• Hakusan Shrine is also a subordinate shrine on the grounds.
