Shinsei-ji Temple
真盛寺
Shinseiji Temple, or Mitsui-dera, is a historic Tendai branch temple worth visiting for its Edo-period buildings.
What it is
- Tokyo branch temple of the Tendai Shinsei sect.
- Founded in 1631 by Shinkan Shonin.
- Also known as 'Mitsui-dera'.
- Family temple of the Echigoya, founded by Mitsui Takatoshi.

- Temple grounds are the third largest in Suginami Ward.
- Main hall dates from 1776.
- Gansan Daishi-do dates from 1820.
- Chugen Shoin dates from 1865.
