Shizuoka Sengen Shrine is an ancient complex of three shrines with important historical buildings.

What it is

  • A general term for Kanbe, Asama, and Otoshimioya Shrines.
  • Kanbe Shrine was founded about 2100 years ago.
  • Asama Shrine was invited from Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha in 901.
  • Tokugawa Ieyasu performed his coming-of-age ceremony here in 1555.

  • Twenty-six buildings are National Important Cultural Properties.
  • Shrine buildings are lacquered and polychrome, late Edo period.
  • The main hall of the Great Worship Hall is 25 meters high.
  • Tokugawa Ieyasu rebuilt the shrine buildings in 1582.
