Shōfuku-ji
聖福寺
Shōfuku-ji is a historic Zen temple in Iwate, home to a unique Kannon hall and ancient Jizō statue.
What it is
- A Sōtō Zen temple in Hachimantai City, Iwate Prefecture.
- Founded in 1596 by Zenshitsu Chōdon Zenji.
- Patron was the Kita clan, lords of Terada Castle.

- Shirasaka Kannon-dō, moved here in 1919.
- Wooden Jizō Bosatsu standing statue, guardian of Narayama Sado.
- Jizō statue shows late Heian period characteristics.
- Terada Castle ruins are located behind the temple.
