Shōkaku-in Temple
正覚院
Shōkaku-in is a historic Shingon temple founded for farmers, worth visiting for its Jizo statue.
What it is
- A Shingon-shu Buzan-ha Buddhist temple.
- Founded in the mid-Muromachi period.
- Ōta Dōkan founded it.
- Established as compensation for farmers.
What to see
- Main hall rebuilt from the 1870s.
- Jizo Bosatsu statue erected in 1938.
- Known as the "Yago Jizo-son."
