Shōnen-ji Temple
称念寺
Shōnen-ji Temple is a historic Jodo sect temple with significant Buddhist statues.
What it is
- A Jodo sect temple.
- Founded in 1615 by Shinyo.
- Also possibly founded in 1606.
- Its mountain name is Hittokusan.
What to see
- An 89.7 cm tall Amitabha Nyorai statue.
- The principal image dates to the Muromachi period.
- Kannon Bosatsu and Seishi Bosatsu flank the main statue.
- Six carved Jizo statues stand before the main hall.
Getting there
- Koshu Kaido (Shinshu Okan) passes in front.
