Shūjō-ji Temple is a historic pilgrimage site with unique deities, rebuilt after the Hannō War.

What it is

  • A Shingon-shu Chizan-ha Buddhist temple.
  • Founded by Hōin Ryōkei, who died in 1611.
  • The 8th of the Koma Bandō 33 Kannon Pilgrimage sites.
  • Served as a bettō for Inari Shrine until the Meiji era.

What to see

  • Principal image is Fudō Myōō.
  • Enshrined deities include Shō Kannon Bosatsu and Yakushi Nyorai.
  • Kannon-dō was rebuilt in 1690.
  • Rebuilt in 1869 after being burned down.
