Shūjō-ji Temple
秀常寺
Shūjō-ji Temple is a historic pilgrimage site with unique deities, rebuilt after the Hannō War.
What it is
- A Shingon-shu Chizan-ha Buddhist temple.
- Founded by Hōin Ryōkei, who died in 1611.
- The 8th of the Koma Bandō 33 Kannon Pilgrimage sites.
- Served as a bettō for Inari Shrine until the Meiji era.
What to see
- Principal image is Fudō Myōō.
- Enshrined deities include Shō Kannon Bosatsu and Yakushi Nyorai.
- Kannon-dō was rebuilt in 1690.
- Rebuilt in 1869 after being burned down.
