Sokusei-ji Temple
即清寺
Sokusei-ji Temple is a historic Shingon Buddhist temple with a long history of rebuilding.
What it is
- A Shingon-shu Buzan-ha sect temple.
- Founded by Genyu Sojo during the Kenkyu era (1190-1199).
- Minamoto no Yoritomo ordered its construction.
- Named after Hatakeyama Shigetada's posthumous name.
What to see
- Buddhist statues survived an 1898 fire.
- The kuri-kyakuden, rebuilt in 1905.
- The main hall and bell tower, rebuilt in 1939.
- The sanmon gate, rebuilt in 1980.
- The corridor, rebuilt in 1989.
