Sudō Shrine
崇道神社
Sudō Shrine is a historic Kyoto shrine dedicated to Emperor Sudō, with a National Treasure epitaph.
What it is
- Shrine dedicated to Emperor Sudō (Prince Sawara).
- Founded between 859 and 877.
- Three shrines merged into it in 1915.
- Itata Shrine is the oldest in Kamitakano.
What to see
- Tomb of Ono no Emishi on the grounds.
- Gilt bronze epitaph of Ono no Emishi is a National Treasure.
- Epitaph discovered in 1613, designated in 1961.
- Epitaph is deposited at the Kyoto National Museum.
