Ancient shrine in Shizuoka with a sacred camphor tree and unique winter festivals.
What it is
- A Shikinaisha shrine dedicated to Sugihokowake no Mikoto.
- Isonotakeru no Mikoto and Sukunahikona no Mikoto are also enshrined.
- Rebuilt in the Wado era (708-715) and again in 1193.
- Main hall was rebuilt in 1819.
What to see
- A large camphor tree, over 1,000 years old.
- The camphor tree is a national natural monument since 1936.
When to go
- Sake Dome Festival is held on December 17th.
- Sake Hiraki Festival is held on December 24th.
