Sumiyoshi Otomo Shrine
住吉大伴神社
Visit this shrine to see unique architecture and a monument to an ancient poet.
What it is
- A shrine at the foot of Mount Sumiyoshi.
- It enshrines Amenoshihi-no-mikoto and Michi-no-omi-no-mikoto.
- It also enshrines the Sumiyoshi Sanjin deities.
- Originally named Ban-shi Jinja.
What to see
- The main hall, built in the early Showa period.
- The main hall has unique Sumiyoshi-zukuri architecture.
- The main hall's roof was changed to copper in 1978.
- A monument with a poem by Otomo Yakamochi is on the grounds.
