Tajima Kokubun-niji
但馬国分尼寺

What it is
- A Jodo sect Buddhist temple originally commissioned by Emperor Shomu during the Nara period.
- The site was designated as a National Historic Site in 1990.
- The original grounds once spanned a square area of approximately 160 meters.
- A nunnery site is located about one kilometer north of the main temple grounds.
What to see
- The archaeological remains of a former seven-story pagoda.
- A Shaka Nyorai statue brought to the site from Kyoto in 1759.
- Artifacts and excavated wooden tablets displayed at the Toyooka City Historical Museum.
