What it is

  • A Shinto shrine dedicated to the deity Izanagi-no-mikoto.
  • Founded around 1069 by a priest from the famous Kumano Hongu Taisha.
  • The name originates from a high mound, or Takatsuka, built on the site.
  • Formerly known as Kumano Sansha Gongen until its renaming in 1871.

  • The main worship hall which was reconstructed in 1966.
  • A new north approach to the grounds completed in 2022.
