Takeda Suga Shrine in Yuki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is a significant site that combines two historical shrines. It enshrines two deities: Takenukawawake-no-mikoto and Susanoo-no-mikoto.
One part, Takeda Shrine, has a long history, being listed in the ancient Engishiki Jinmyocho. This shrine was relocated in 1764. The other part, Suga Shrine, was founded earlier in 1242 as Tenno-sha. It was designated as the general shrine of Yuki-go by Yuki Naochika.
Suga Shrine changed its name from Tenno-sha in 1868, and then Takeda Shrine merged with it in 1870. The combined shrine was recognized as a local shrine in 1873 and later promoted to a prefectural shrine in 1930.
