- Founded by Kūkai in 816.
- Originally named Inukaiyama Henjōan.
- Renamed Tenpōrin-ji in 853.

- Current main hall built by Daiajjari Ryūben.
- Main hall is an Edo period construction.
- Shrine buildings are from the Muromachi period.
- Daisuka Kofun, a square tumulus, is behind living quarters.
- Myōjinzuka Kofun is behind the shrine building.
