鳥越神社
Ancient Tokyo shrine, home to one of the city's largest portable shrines, known for its vibrant night festival.
What it is
- Founded in 651 as Shiratori Shrine.
- Dedicated to Yamato Takeru no Mikoto.
- Also enshrines Ame no Koyane no Mikoto and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
- Renamed Torikoe Daimyojin by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi and Yoshiie.
What to see
- One of Tokyo's largest senkan mikoshi portable shrines.
When to go
- Annual festival is held in June.
- Known for its night festival.
- Tondo-yaki is held on January 8th.
- Chinowa-kuguri is held on June 30th.
