Toun-ji Temple (Hida)

What it is

• A Soto Zen temple, also called Toun-zenji Temple.
• Founded during the Oei era (1394-1428) in the Muromachi period.
• Principal image is Shaka Nyorai.
• Known as the 'Daruma Temple'.

• The current temple buildings, rebuilt after 1930 fire.
• Daruma-do hall on the temple grounds.
• Over 3,000 Daruma dolls housed in the Daruma-do hall.
