Toyosaki Shrine

What it is

• A Shinto shrine dedicated to Emperor Kotoku, Susanoo, and Emperor Ojin.
• Founded as a small shrine by Fujiwara Shigeharu between 990 and 995.
• Designated as a village shrine in 1872 after a major fire in 1772.
• The current shrine buildings were reconstructed in 1964.

What to see

• The main shrine buildings reconstructed in the mid-twentieth century.
• A sacred stone said to have served as Emperor Kotoku's footstool.
• Smaller shrines on the grounds including Kashima Shrine and Toyouke Taisha.
