This ancient shrine, dedicated to the moon god, is a peaceful extension of the Grand Shrine.

What it is

  • A detached palace of Ise Grand Shrine Toyouke-daijingu (Geku).
  • Dedicated to Tsukuyomi-no-mikoto, younger brother of Amaterasu-Omikami.
  • Promoted to a detached palace in 1210.

  • Shrine building in the traditional Shinmei-zukuri style.

  • Shrine conducts festivals similar to the Grand Shrine.
