Explore a massive 5th-century keyhole-shaped tomb, one of Japan's largest ancient burial mounds.
What it is
- A keyhole-shaped tumulus, or kofun.
- Constructed around the middle of the 5th century.
- Part of the Saki-Tatenami Kofun Group.
- Possible tomb for Empress Hata.
What to see
- A three-tiered burial mound.
- Slopes covered with fukiishi (revetment stones).
- Traces of haniwa (clay figures) on the first tier.
- Total length of 270-280 meters.
- Front part is 129.5 meters wide.
- Rear circular part has a diameter of 128 meters.
