Wasen-ji Temple
和泉寺
Ancient temple founded in the 8th century, home to significant Buddhist statues and pilgrimage routes.
What it is
- Koyasan Shingon sect temple, founded in the Tenpyo era (729-749).
- Principal image is the Eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu, created by Gyoki.
- Kukai performed Shingon rituals here.
- Part of two pilgrimage routes: Awa Saigoku and Awa Hokurei Yakushi.
