What it is

  • Koyasan Shingon sect temple, founded in the Tenpyo era (729-749).
  • Principal image is the Eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu, created by Gyoki.
  • Kukai performed Shingon rituals here.
  • Part of two pilgrimage routes: Awa Saigoku and Awa Hokurei Yakushi.

What to see
