Yakumo Shrine

What it is

• A shrine for warding off evil and bringing good luck.
• Origin attributed to Minamoto no Yoshimitsu.
• Renamed during the Meiji Restoration.
• Rebuilt in 1930 after the Great Kanto Earthquake.

• The back mountain is the start of Gionyama hiking course.

When to go

• Shinshun Kagura is held on January 6th.
• Shinko-sai features a large mikoshi procession.
• Shinko-sai is also called Omachi Matsuri.
